MANSUR GAVRIEL INTRODUCES SHOES AND NEW BAG SHAPES AT FIRST FASHION WEEK PRESENTATION

No fashion brand in recent history has enjoyed as meteoric a rise as Mansur Gavriel has over the past three years. The leather goods label launched in 2012 with just two bag shapes — a bucket and a tote in simple, untanned leather — that satisfied the fashion crowd's craving for minimalist accessories at precisely the right moment. That craving hasn't let up: The brand's bags, including the new styles introduced in February, have been virtually sold out ever since. Dozens upon dozens of imitations have followed in their wake — for which designers Rachel Mansur and Floriana Gavriel rightly received a CFDA Award this June.

Soon, Mansur Gavriel will find out if its magic extends beyond bags. The label hosted its first fashion week presentation in downtown Manhattan Monday afternoon, turning the ground floor of the Swiss Institute pink to present its very first — and very colorful — collection of shoes, as well as four new bag styles.

MANSUR GAVRIEL Moon Clutch

The shoes come in four styles and five heel heights, ranging from flat sandals to mules, in the label's signature untanned leather as well as suede. Like the bags, they are minimalist in design and come in a great variety of colors, though — and this is partly just the nature of minimalist footwear — less distinctive than the brand's bags.

The shoes were displayed alongside four new bag styles — the Moon Clutch, the Flat Clutch, the Volume Clutch and Circle bag — several of which came in colorful textiles designed by Alexander Girard (which will be exclusive to Barneys) and were adorned with gold clasps. Prints and hardware are both firsts for the label. Models walked around in colorful A-line dresses designed by Mansur and Gavriel; they won't be produced, but the designers said they are planning to launch ready-to-wear down the line.
